Today the last of the Year 3/4 classes went to Broom House Farm in Witton Gilbert. This has been as part of our 'Tasty Treats' topic. Our aim was to compare farming in the locality and Brazil. As you may know we are learning about farming chocolate in Brazil, unfortunatly we could not find a chocolate farm in the UK to visit!
Whilst at Broom House Farm, Jane and Ruth taught us all about farming and the countryside. We learnt about: why the soil in the fields is tinted black; how fields are prepared for crops; the role animals have in preparing the fields over winter; sileage; raising Aberdeen Angus cattle; organic farming; farming machinary and the best bits of all keeping chickens and lambing! They were so knowledgable about the farm and we really enjoyed asking them questions. All of us now have a stroing view of whether we would like to be farmers in the future.
We have had a fantastic time and we will be posting photographs on our class pages, so please keep a look out.
