  • Helping children to understand how written and spoken language has changed over time. (British Value: Individual liberty and Mutual Respect and Tolerance)
  • Peer editing of work (British Value: Mutual Respect)
  • Identifying with characters. Children are shown examples of protected characteristics through class texts. (British Value: Mutual Respect and Tolerance)
  • Teaches children to identify and be critical of social attitudes and the use of language.  (British Value: Democracy, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance Rule of Law)
