  • Y6 Call for an Election

Tue 12 May 2015 Mrs Lakey

As you may have heard, two baby rabbits have been bought by the Children's Council. As school we are still trying to decide on their names.

Yesterday, the Y6 pupils asked me to help them run a 'Rabbelection' in the style of the General Election in order to decide the names democratically. I also secretly think they want the chance to experience voting - the grown-up way! Community input is also important to the children so there will be an online vote for every adult we have a mobile phone number for.

Today during breakfast they secured the plans. This is what will happen this week:

    1. Children's Council members will get suggested bunny names to Mrs Lakey by 3pm on Wednesday.

    2. Y6 children will prepare the ballot papers and the App Development Team will set up an online voting system using SurveyMonkey.

    3. Mrs Fawell will text parents the link to the online voting form on Thursday.

    4. During lunch on Friday children will be asked to visit the Polling Station to make their confidential vote.

    5. At 1:50pm on Friday the names will be announced by the Y6 pupils.

Pleease support the children by using the online vote by 11am on Friday. Thank you.

  • Magnificent May - School Rabbits Bought

Sun 03 May 2015 Mrs Lakey

I'm so excited to tell you that I've collected our school rabbits today. We have two female mini lops who are sisters. They are 9 weeks old today.

I will be posting pictures a bit later, once they've settled into their hutch and will be bringing them into school on Tuesday. They have no names, so we all need to think of what they can be called. Please post your ideas on the school BLOG.

We all need to thank Faye and Ruby for the idea and the Children's Council for organising the funding. The school rabbits will be funded through the profits from tuck shop and will be taken home by on of the three nominated staff during weekends and holidays.

Finally we must thank Miss Pounder for becoming the lead teacher for the school pets and for all her discussions with the RSPCA over the past few months.

  • Super Praise for our Y3/4 Classes

Fri 01 May 2015 Mrs Lakey

Today Mrs Wilkinson received an e-mail from Durham Museums praising the Y3/4 children for their behaviour during their last two school visits. We are all incredibly proud of the children who took part. Below is a copy of the message from Dan from Durham Museums Education Team.

    "Hello,

I’d just like to send a message to thank the staff and students that recently visited the Oriental Museum on a visit to learn about Ancient Egypt. Having already worked with many of the children at Palace Green Library on a Stone Age workshop it was fantastic to work with them again - on both visits the children were incredibly enthusiastic, polite and a pleasure to work with. I’m sure members of the team will be fighting over any visits that you might book with us in the future!

    Thanks for a wonderful day,

Dan (and the rest of the team!)"

Already some of the children have gone back to the Oriental Museum with their families to show them the Mummies. Maicey was telling us yesterday about the dragon there, which we did not see during our visit. Often during the weekend you can take part in craft activities there. More information can be found on their website.
