  • Reading Reward

    Tue 17 Dec 2013

A group of five children and their parents/ carers had a lovely reward trip to the Waterstone's shop in Durham and Lumley Castle on Monday. The trip, where the children were able to spend money on books of their choice (courtesy of the school) and then read them in the library of Lumley Castle while sipping tea and eating cakes of various types was a fitting reward for all the reading that they have completed in the Autumn term. As all parents/carers are aware, the school places a great deal of importance on the ability to read, decode and enjoy books in a variety of situations. We were delighted therefore to be able to reward the children (whose names were drawn in a raffle) with this outing.

Who knows where next terms "reading champions" will end up for their treat.....

  • It's a Christmas Cracker!

    Tue 17 Dec 2013
St Francis had over 200 parents, friends and carers rockin in the aisles last Wednesday and Thursday when they presented "Christmas Spells" for everyone's delight. What with a very cool angle Gabriel (Ellie Barron Hay) and the singing shepherds (Sean Hutchinson, Bradley Lauder and Alfie Nicholl Brown) and their cute sheep (baaaaa) Crotchety Mary (Elaine Clark) and Taylor Bowen were  "right at home" in the roles of Mary and Joseph. All in all, a magnificent performance in which all of the children excelled- 9 songs learnt word for word, drums, bells and not forgetting the new sound system which Mrs Lakey continues to try to get the better of. Brilliant team work - and excellent outcomes! Thank you everyone!!
