  • Links with Bangladesh strengthened

    Sat 20 Oct 2012

Mrs Cooper and I landed back in Newcastle today after 6 days in Bangladesh.  We have worked closely with Md Runendu Dey and the schools in the Cox's Bazar district to strengthen the school partnerships.  All the head teachers and students put on magnificent assemblies for us and welcomed us into their schools.

We visited over 18 schools and spoke to the students, who all aspire to be fluent in English.  Through discussing dreams and aspirations they could see that children in our school have similar views despite the massive differences in our economies and schooling systems. Class sizes and conditions are very different in Bangladesh with parent's having to pay for each child's education, meaning that many children engage in work from a Primary age.

The area of Cox's Bazar is not a popular place for white people to visit. We made the front page in 5 newspapers and people were very surprised to see us! You will see on the pictures we were photographed constantly by the locals and Headteachers were keen to make links with Durham schools.

Over the forthcoming weeks we will be teaching the children more about our partner school in Bangladesh. Please have a look at the photographs in the Gallery sections (under children).

  • Radio Foodie Roadshow hits St Francis'

    Fri 05 Oct 2012

We were delighted to welcome Expochef and Star Radio to the school yesterday (4th October 2012) to present a brand new "Roadshow" to pupils, staff and parents, aimed at raising awareness of Healthy Lifestyles for all. As ever, Mark Erndon (Mr Expochef himself) provided everyone with lots of food for thought (pun intended!) and had our pupils trying new foods and food combinations.

Star Radio were there to record it all and will use interviews and voiceovers as part of an advertising campaign on their radio station.

The school were delighted to be asked to be the "first footers" in this instance and a brilliant day was had by all. Many thanks must go to the brave parents who came along and cooked, shared and tasted alongside their children. Without your support, the impact would not, we feel be as positiviely great as it undoubtedly will be.

  • Genes for Jeans...or was it Jeans for Genes?

    Fri 05 Oct 2012
Well done to everyone in school for supporting our first charity day of the year. We raised £86 for this most worthwhile charity from our non uniform day. Excellent!
